Llandrindod Wells Skatepark Takes Shape

After years of campaigning, planning and fundraising, the new Llandrindod Wells Skatepark is finally taking shape at Princes Avenue.

The project began with local skateboarders and BMX riders campaigning for a purpose-built skatepark in the town. Dod Town Extreme helped build early public support, with the project later championed by Jase Hawker and supported by Llandrindod’s Ready to Roll, local councillors and Llandrindod Wells Town Council.

Land for the skatepark was secured from Powys County Council in 2021, allowing plans for the new facility to move forward.

The project initially received a National Lottery grant of £269,050. Further support was later secured through the National Lottery People and Places Fund, the Transforming Towns Mid Wales Fund and money ring-fenced by Llandrindod Wells Town Council, bringing the main grant funding to more than £550,000.

Construction is now being carried out by CANVAS, specialists in designing and building concrete skateparks and public spaces. The new park’s ramps, bowls and concrete features are gradually beginning to transform the site.

I recently visited the skatepark to photograph the construction work and document the process behind the build. It was fascinating to see the level of skill involved and to capture a long-awaited community project becoming a reality.

Once complete, the skatepark will provide a dedicated space for local skaters, BMX riders and future generations to enjoy.
